Salvaged from Downtown highrises -- now incorporated throughout the lofts as a reminder of the past

Pristine polychrome terra cotta plaques found installed inside the Northwestern Terra Cotta Co. workrooms and attributed to master modeler Fritz Albert. The discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922 coincided with popular interest in the decorative Egyptian style. Albert was something of an amateur Egyptologist and his hieroglyphs often included messages pertaining to the function of the building.

The shells lining the columns next to the whale on the first floor of the museum are from The Broadway Oyster Bar (located at 736 South Broadway, St Louis, MO.)--- Interestingly enough is the fact that the shells found one column represents just one night's consumption of oysters at the restaurant!!! These shells can be seen throughout the lofts on the 5th floor....

Printing Plates -- Vintage print blocks are used extensively throughout the City Museum and in the exclusive lofts on the 5th floor. In addition to a cohesive visual backdrop, these printing plates & blocks provide a window into St Louis' past, representing everything from restaurant menus and department store ads to company letterheads and signature plates.

"Hostess" the maker of the iconic  "Twinkies " --closed the doors on the bakeries nationwide and the plant in St Louis permanently in November of 2012... It was shortly thereafter that City Museum purchased thousands of baking pans to use in a variety of ways in the museum and in lofts... A great example is in the main entry hallway leading to The Lofts at City Museum, as well as in some of the lofts in Phase 2 on the walls....

The walls bordering the entry into The City Museum Lofts" is loaded with the most unusual recycled material - !!! On the right are Escalator Stairs rescued from the now-closed Downtown St Louis Famous Barr Department Store ...

City Museum acquired 70,000 bottles from a discontinued bottle line in the late 1990's from the Vess Soda Company. Each bottle in this wall was individually placed and attached with silicone.

Polychrome terra cotta relief medallion depicting "Progress Lighting the Way for Commerce". Also known as The Spirit of Progress, she became the corporate symbol for popular retailer Montgomery Ward and was featured in various color combinations on Ward store facades across the US.
